To understand what Bonsai is, we need to learn more about its meaning and history.

The Chinese began creating miniature landscapes over 2,000 years ago. The closer the miniature was to the scale of the original, the more magically powerful it seemed to be. A student could focus on its magical properties and access them. During the Kamakura period (700 years ago), the Japanese copied this art form, from that time on  a distinct Japanese style came into being. Instead of complete landscapes, the Japanese began to focus on individual plants.  These plants are what we know as Bonsai today

Bonsai is a fascinating art that combines horticultural techniques and oriental aesthetics in a unique way. The art originated in the Chinese empire and was copied and adapted by the Japanese to become what we know today as Bonsai. Literally "bon-sai" means "planted in a pot".
