Description

TheSedum morganianum, also known as donkey's tail due to its long green "tail" formed by leaves grouped in hanging braids, belongs to the genus Sedum.

An evergreen succulent much appreciated as a houseplant, where it survives for a long time without requiring excessive attention, provided it is positioned in a bright area. Let's find out how it is grown in pots and in the garden, which soil it prefers, the type of exposure required and everything you need to know to grow it.

Sedum morganianum belongs to the Crassulaceae family, originally from Mexico, just like theCrassula. It is a perennial succulent plant that can be grown both at home and in the garden.

Here are its main features:

it has fleshy greenish-blue leaves;

it has a hanging habit with cascading stems that can even reach 1 meter in length;

the flowers are star-shaped and can have different colors, ranging from pink to red.

Thisfat plantit does not require particular care and as stated, it can be grown both indoors and outdoors. In the garden it can survive even with rainwater only, the important thing is that winter temperatures do not drop below zero. If in your area they should be particularly rigid, it is better to plant it in a pot, preferably opting for a sufficiently deep hanging model

As far as exposure is concerned, the Sedum morganianum should be placed in a bright place, away from drafts. It likes direct light in the morning and filtered light in the afternoon. The plant tolerates high temperatures well even if the ideal climate is 18-23 °C. Below 4 °C it could be damaged, especially if the soil is dry.

Sedum morganianum should not be excessively watered but only when the soil is dry, in order to avoid dangerous water stagnation, which causes the roots to rot.In summershould be watered approx1-2 times a week, inwinterbetter wet itevery 15-20 days.
