    Description

Sansevieria is one of the most popular houseplants. Its strengths are robustness and ease of cultivation. To this we can add its aesthetic qualities: the appearance of the leaves, stylized and essential, goes perfectly with modern settings.

There are many varieties on the market, suitable for all tastes and locations. Lately those with perfectly straight leaves are increasingly appreciated, capable of giving verticality to environments.

The color is a nice medium but lively green, with gray or pale green streaks appearing which, overall, give the impression of light horizontal streaks.

The cultivation of Sansevieria is among the simplest: with a little attention we will certainly be able to make it grow and thrive.

It adapts perfectly to apartment life. Certainly it particularly likes a very bright exposure which, among other things, will favor more vigorous growth. The ideal is to place it near a window facing south: direct sun must however be avoided because it could cause leaf burns. It is advisable to use light curtains, especially during the summer months and in the afternoon.

Slightly darker corners won't be a problem: the plant certainly won't deteriorate. We will simply have less vigorous growth and slightly duller colors.

Like all tropical plants it is very sensitive to low temperatures. In the apartment, however, it rarely suffers damage from the cold, even if it is kept in an unheated room: it resists very well up to 14°C, only stopping growth.

In the other seasons it is good to keep it between 18 and 27°C. On hotter days it will be sufficient to increase the water intake proportionally.

Sansevieria is suitable for all people who often forget to irrigate: dry soil, in fact, is not a big problem. Indicatively, we distribute water when at least the first 5 cm from the surface are dry and we never leave water in the saucer.

It is important to clean the leaves thoroughly at least once a week. For this work let's use a soft damp cloth. Instead, we avoid the use of foliar polishes which do nothing but close the stomata and also favor the accumulation of dirt.

From time to time, in the summer, we can move the plant outside during a storm. The plant will be effectively hydrated and cleaned up. We then wait for the soil to dry well before watering again.

Sansevieria does not require pruning. It may only be necessary to remove diseased or old leaves when they begin to turn yellow. We cut at the base with very sharp and clean scissors.
